Role:	Design Consultant - FM Engineering
Ref:	ASL-40-05
Location:	Berkshire
Package:	£30,000 to £34,000 salary (depending on experience), plus attractive benefits

The Role

The Design Consultant is responsible for providing fact-based guidance and consultancy services to the Building industry. The Design Consultant will work on a range of services, including:

• Specification development service, e.g. to NBS or Specification Expert standards;
• Building services design reviews, e.g. for sustainability or resilience;
• Researching and writing building services guidance;
• Investigations into correctly performing HVAC plants.

The Design Consultant will have the opportunity to influence the strategic development of building services guidance, specifications and designs for the Company's clients and to promote best practice. The workload predominantly focus on developing proposals and delivering consultancy work, although there will also be involvement in medium-term research projects on occasion.

Key Responsibilities

• Input to projects in one or more of the FM Engineering department's work areas;
• Develop particular work areas that customers and industry require;
• Assist with other department initiatives as required, including promoting the business to generate new opportunities;
• Assume responsibility for day-to-day technical work on consultancy and research projects including timely completion of milestone deliverables to cost and quality;
• Prepare proposals for consultancy and research work;
• Provide technical advice and guidance to clients;
• Continue to enhance technical skills by having an awareness of new technology, processes and products and participating in training to continue personal development.

The Candidate

This is an exciting and pivotal role for a candidate with previous experience in building services engineering design and specification. A bias towards mechanical services design is desirable, although electrical service design would also be beneficial.

A knowledge and understanding of building services systems and components from a number of perspectives is essential - i.e. design, installation and commissioning etc.

The ideal candidate will have an HND or preferably degree/equivalent qualification in engineering or building services design. An interest and understanding of building energy, environmental and sustainability issues would be of great benefit.
