The Role

The Senior Consultant is a pivotal position within the Facilities Management Engineering team of a leading consultancy service to the Building industry. The Senior Consultant will work on a range of services, including:

  • Promoting best practice in maintenance operations;
  • Benchmarking buildings (energy consumption and maintenance costs);
  • Maintenance audits;
  • Maintenance strategies and schedules development;
  • Forward maintenance planning advice;
  • Investigations into incorrectly performing HVAC plants;
  • Post occupancy evaluation;
  • Energy audits and energy management advice;
  • Condition surveys.

The workload of the Senior Consultant and the department is principally consultancy in nature, although there will also be research work on occasion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery and report writing for the consultancy services listed above, with the support of the team;
  • Undertake site visits and liaise with clients and their maintenance teams;
  • Undertake research on energy conservation, building operation, maintenance or related topics;
  • Carry out technical work on consultancy and research projects including timely competition of milestone deliverables to cost and quality;
  • Prepare proposals for consultancy and research work;
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to BSRIA members and other clients;
  • Assist with marketing of the department's service to industry;
  • Continue to enhance technical skills by having an awareness of new technology; processes and products and participating in training to assist in personal development.

The Candidate

This is an exciting and pivotal role for a candidate with previous experience in a construction maintenance or facilities management role. A thorough knowledge and understanding of building services systems and components from an operation or commissioning perspective is essential.

The ideal candidate will have an HND or preferably degree/equivalent qualification in an engineering or building services subject. Strong report writing skills are also fundamental for success in this role.
